Contemporary Medical Acupuncture
This treatment takes the traditional form of acupuncture and modifies it using modern day scientific understandings of human physiology and anatomy to target the following:
|
Upon insertion of a sterile, fine grade acupuncture needle, healing mechanisms and natural pain control pathways are activated. Insertion of the needle will improve local circulation and muscle nutrition, this in turn will enhance local healing and muscular function.
The effects on nervous tissue are even more impressive. Local needle insertion, especially with the concurrent use of electric nerve stimulation to regions of vast innervation, will normalize nerve communication. This normalization of nerve function will occur at multiple levels of the peripheral and central nervous systems, resulting in better hormonal, visceral, and muscular activity.
Needles are inserted accurately and gently using a technique which minimizes pain. The needles used are of the lowest grade possible to achieve the desired effects, and our accuracy due to the extensive training in anatomy is extremely precise.
All needles are 100% sterile, and are single use only. All of the above does not always mean that some discomfort will not be felt. However, Dr. Evan Durnin takes all necessary precautions to make sure the treatment is comfortable after initial needle insertion. Often times - along with needle insertion - electrical stimulation will be included in a treatment; this current feels like a light tingling sensation and is quite comfortable.
Adverse effects from treatment utilizing contemporary medical acupuncture are very rare. The most common being minor bruising or minimal bleeding (0.3% in 1000 treatments). At times a sense of euphoria or intense relaxation may occur after a treatment. This sense is a normal occurrence and must subside before driving.
